Singles and Bootlegs CD: The Liner Notes
bootlegs
The Limited Edition School Tales Lunch Box Set includes a rare 15-track CD that will never be available elsewhere. The CD is called Singles and Bootlegs–A collection of rare songs by the band that were released as singles or previously unreleased. It also contains alternate versions of Happy Analogues songs that will surely incite interest in their discography.

Here are some of liner notes from the CD as found in the Lunch Box Set:

3. Yes Its True
(Words and Music by Ted Reyes)
Single from the EP Three Hundred Sixty Five. Released in the summer of 2007
This version differs from the released version in the EP. The guitar part in this version was played through a clean amp compared to an overdriven one in the EP version.
Ted: Vocals and guitar
Paul: Guitar and backing vocal
Ronnie: Bass and backing vocal
Jonze: Drums

Single released in Spring 2007.

5. Recess (First Draft)
(Music by Ted Reyes)
First draft of the School Tales filler track Recess. Ted played all the instruments in this demo, which still has the original heavy lead guitar in the middle part of the tune. The band decided to include just the first part of this draft in the finished version of School Tales.
6. That Summer (First Draft)
(Words and music by Ted Reyes)
This first recorded draft of the song from Lilacs and Politics still has Ted’s vocal instead of Sheryl Garcia-Reyes’ vocal, which appeared in the final release. Likewise, Ted employed his 12-string Rickenbacker 330 to track the guitar part, months before he auctioned it off on Ebay. There is also a noticable key change in the song’s outro which was removed in the final version.

7. Nakatulog Ba? (Third Draft)
(Words and Music by Ted Reyes)
A piano and vocal song supposed to be included in the final cut of School Tales. Ted played piano and sang in this third draft of the song. The first draft included a four part vocal harmony in the bridge, which was augmented by a horn section in the second draft. This third draft is the stripped down version minus all the embellishments in the middle section.

8. Crazy Girl For You (First Draft)
(Words and music by Paul Zurita)
This very first recorded draft of the Lilacs and Politics track is very close to the released version. This recording of Crazy Girl For You was played by just Paul on guitar and vocal, and Ronnie on bass and drums.

9. Yes It's True (Recorded Rehearsal)
(Words and music by Ted Reyes)
This rehearsal of the song was recorded at Soulworks sound using electric drums and all the guitars directly plugged to a mixer board. Notice the different intro compared to the final released version. Ted changed the intro for being too close sounding to a Deep Purple hit.

10.Hanapin (Kuwarto Scene Version - First Draft)
(Words and music by Ted Reyes)
This is the first demo recording of the song that became the track called Hanapin in the School Tales album.Ted originally wrote different words for this song that he called Kuwarto Scene, which was more sexual than wholesome.

11.Twenty Five (First Draft)
(Words and music by Ted Reyes)
One of the very first songs played by the band, which was eventually dropped due to its unfinished lyrics. This recording still has the 'filler' words that Ted did not bother to finish.

12. Hodgepodge (Orchestral Version)
(Music by Ted Reyes)
A symphonic arrangement of Hodgepodge, the album closer of the band's debut album Lilacs and Politics. Ted wrote the score and recorded this version using a mellotron, a piano, bass,  taped strings, Indian percussion, timpani and cymbals.

13. Make Your World Go Round (First Draft)
(Words and music by Paul Zurita)
This song was one of the first songs written for the School Tales project, however, as the "concept" songs began to pile in, Make Your World was pushed to the background for use in future albums. It is one of Paul's sweetest songs and this first draft recording of just Paul and an acoustic guitar accompaniment fully captures its raw beauty.

14. Tangay ng Anod (First Draft)
(Words and music by Ted Reyes)
This first draft of one of the anthems in the new album features Ronnie singing and playing an acoustic guitar. This draft provides a stark contrast to the layered production heard in the album version.Although this 'naked' arrangement has its notable charms, Tangay ng Anod was always planned to be a production since Ted introduced the song to the band. The raw, pure treatment in the double album was handed to the album closer, Graduation Day, which also has Ronnie singing the lead vocal.

15. Our Tomorrow
(Words and Music by Ted Reyes)
In the winter of 2007, Former Eraserheads manager Ann Angala approached The Happy Analogues to join a Philippine environmental compilation album that her group was planning to produce. The band came up with this song, Our Tomorrow, and sent it to Ms. Angala.
This is the only existing recording of the song. The band played it live once at a gig with Perf De Castro and The Kuwagos in May 2008.
